Conservation Bodies

The Map Below Illustrates the areas of interest of most of the registered Conservation Bodies in the Western Cape. Click on the area of a Conservation Body in order to see the contact details of each Organisation.

Communities interested in heritage related matters within the Western Cape are able to register their area of interest for consultation purposes:
http://hwc.org.za/node/1622

The below list provides the various contact details of various conservation bodies that have registered an interest in heritage with Heritage Western Cape. If a development or activity covered by the National Heritage Resources Act falls into the interests or defined area of the various bodies, the said body must be consulted. The consultation period runs for 30 days. HWC will not process an application if it has not undergone the consultation process. If a registered Conservation body fails to comment within the 30 day period, proof of the notification to the conservation body in writing must be submitted with the application.

Drakenstein of Heritage Foundation In general terms the Drakenstein Heritage Foundation’s sphere of registration involves two specific principles, emanating from its history that pre-dates the current Municipal boundaries. Firstly: The complete Drakenstein Municipal area. Secondly: Historical, The area, Drakenstein, included the areas: Groot- and Klein Drakenstein, some parts of which have now been omitted from the Drakenstein Municipal area. Specifically detailed the southern boundaries of the DHF area, are the Wemmers River east of the Berg up to the Mountain ridge and Dwars River, west of the Berg River up to an imaginary line west of the Pniel Graveyard to the peak of the Simonsberg range. This western line runs along the ridge behind west of Boschendal, Plaisir de Merle, Donkerhoek and Babylonstoren and descending the Mountain, south of Anura to the Klapmuts/Old Paarl Road 4-way stop. The boundary then runs approximately west of the south side of the Old Paarl Road to Joostenberg (then along the Malmesbury/Stellenbosch Road to the Paardeberg Road, where it turns approximately east to the Paardeberg, including Slent to the Wellington Road just beyond the prison, to the Berg River and / or the Drakenstein Municipal boundary. There are associated areas that are specifically included: Klapmuts Kop and the farms to the North and East of the Elsenburg Muldersvlei Road. The area in Du Toit’s Kloof to the Klip River; the Voor-Paardeberg area. dhfheritage@gmail.com Lyn Marais - DHF Secretary
