The Council of Heritage Western Cape

The Council is HWC’s decision making body and presently consists of the following members:

The Council is appointed for a three year term of office with the current term expiring on 31 October 2025.

The Council meets at least four times a year. In accordance with the ‘Rules of Order and Conduct of Meetings of the Council of Heritage Western Cape and its Committees’ meetings are open to members of the public who may wish to attend.

The Executive Committee of the Council is charged with conducting the business of the Council between meetings. Its meetings are also open to the public. A full meeting schedule for 2023 can be located via the following link https://hwc.org.za/node/3187

The Council has delegated certain functions to committees and its staff which conduct aspects of its business specifically relating to applications, reports and other business of HWC under the terms of the National Heritage Resources Act.

Committees

Meetings of committees take place in terms of delegations and according to an annual schedule of meetings which is usually set at the commencement of the last quarter of the preceding year. Please check our front page for announcements of possible changes to this schedule or confirm meetings by contacting our office.

All meetings are conducted in accordance with the ‘Rules of Order and Conduct of Meetings of the Council of Heritage Western Cape and its Committees’ and are open to members of the public who may wish to attend. Formal appointments to consult with the committee may be set up in terms of the rules.

Please note: In terms of the delegations the majority of decisions on applications are made by the staff of HWC in the Heritage Officers Meeting (HOMs) which takes place weekly.
