Reasons for Site Inspection:
On 6 September 2016, HWC received an application for the Total Demolition of a structure older than 60 years. The building seemed to both the case officer and the HWC heritage officers to contain valuable historical fabric as well as the application lacked contextual photographs. As the proposed work consists of a Total Demolition and the building was not graded, the officer decided to conduct a site inspection to record and understand the context and the building itself.
Findings of Site Inspection:
HWC Officer noted that the building is situated in a fairly modern and altered context with no surrounding historic buildings. Judging from the findings of the report made by Ute Seeman (2016) and a general walkthrough the historic core of Worcester, this building is not unique or rarity in the town and the building is not reflective or play an unique and important role in the history of Worcester. However the building contains press ceilings, well preserved timber joineries and stone plinth at the base of the building. The building dates to the early 1920's and 1930s and elements of the building has remained unchanged since. However there has been modern touches and finishes to some aspects of the building especially in the back entrances of the building in question. However further analysis could not be made until the application was complete.
Recommended Action:
HWC will await the comment of the local conservation body before the item will be tabled and once this comment is received the matter will be discussed at the next HOMS meeting.
