Reasons for Site Inspection:
The loose agreement between CoCT and HWC regarding development in Melkbosstrand results in periodic need to inspect sites of new development for archaeological sensitivity. The development that has been done already is in a very sensitive location. The heritage officers were asked to check the sensitivity of the site in regards to archaeology, in order to allow the owner to respond to the City of Cape Town.
Findings of Site Inspection:
GT and AS visited the site. No evidence of precolonial archaeology was found on the site. The work has already taken place (did not trigger the NHRA). There has been no impact to archaeology. A section 35 permit is not required.
Recommended Action:
GT will write a letter to the city indicating the findings of this report.
