STOP WORKS

Date of Site Visit:

Tuesday, 2 February 2016

HWC Representatives:

Katherine Robinson, Waseefa Dhansay

Met on Site By:

Henk Jochims (chairman of Jarvis Street Terrace Body Corporate and inhabitant of 23 Jarvis Street)

Reasons for Site Inspection:

MR JOCHIMS CALLED HWC TO LET US KNOW THAT HIS NEIGHBOUR HAD JUST BROKEN DOWN A LARGE PORTION OF THEIR BOUNDARY WALL.

Findings of Site Inspection:

THE BOUNDARY WALL HAD INDEED BEEN BROKEN DOWN, LEAVING AN OPENING ONTO THE SERVITUDE THAT BELONGED TO THE ADJACENT ERF 9786 WHICH IF LEFT OPEN WILL CAUSE A SECURITY RISK TO ALL TENANTS LIVING ON ERF 9786. ON CLOSER INSPECTION IT WAS FOUND THAT WORK HAD ALSO BEEN DONE INSIDE THE BUILDING. 1 BATHROOM HAD ALREADY BEEN RE-FURBISHED AND THE KITCHEN AREA WAS IN PROCESS OF BEING RE-FURBISHED - THERE WAS NO PLANS PRESENT ON SITE. A STOP WORKS WAS ISSUED BUT NO-ONE WANTED TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY ON BEHALF OF THE OWNER, THEREFORE THE LETTER WAS HANDED OVER TO BE GIVEN TO THE OWNER. THERE WAS A CONDITION WRITTEN ON THE STOP WORKS THAT THE WHOLE ON THE WALL WAS TO BE SECURED IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE NEIGHBOURS PROPERTIES. 24 HOURS AFTER STOP WORKS WAS ISSUED OPENING STILL REMAINS UN-SECURED.
